Behind the scenes
Black Friday is on at Digitec Galaxus
by Stephan Kurmann
Seems like the at times more than 300 heavily reduced Black Friday and Cyber Monday items have persuaded many online shoppers to use galaxus.de. Although Apple tablets and notebooks generated the most sales overall, the most popular product on Black Friday was a… vacuum cleaner?
Black Friday 2020 already represented a sales record for galaxus.de since its founding in 2018, but 2021 has seen an even more significant increase in sales. With an increase of 94 per cent, galaxus.de almost doubled its sales. A host of bargain hunters were also out and about on Cyber Monday. Sales increased by 66 per cent compared to the previous year.
Whereas our Krefeld logistics centre was under significant duress in 2020, Galaxus was better prepared this year. Here’s Dr. Robert Brohl, Head of Operations at Galaxus Germany: «Last year, the volume of orders on Black Friday clearly overwhelmed our capacity – not least because of the lockdown, which turned many into new online shoppers. This year we were better prepared. And even though Black Friday was twice as successful in terms of sales as in 2020, we were able to send all packages on their way on time thanks to a great team effort. Our logistics teams broke their own records with extra shifts on Saturday this weekend.»
The MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iPad Pro 2021 were the top-selling products for Black Friday 2021. But, interestingly enough, the most sold product at galaxus.de: the Roborock S6 MaxV vacuum cleaner. Apple products were also at the top of the rankings on Cyber Monday. But still, sneaking up into the top 10 best-selling products were Microsoft’s Wi-Fi 6 access point Ubiquiti U6-Lite and Surface Pro 8.
