Xbox has confirmed that the new game from the "Call of Duty" series, "Black Ops 6", which is expected to be released this year, will be included in Game Pass from release day. A new teaser trailer for the game has also been released.

On 23 May, just a few days ago, publisher Activision officially announced the next instalment in the "Call of Duty" series. "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" follows on from "Black Ops Cold War" after around four years. Microsoft, the parent company of Activision, also confirmed on 28 May that "Black Ops 6" will be included in the Xbox Game Pass immediately upon release. This means that you no longer have to purchase the new AAA game at full price, but can play it for free if you have subscribed to Game Pass.

The announcement also includes a new teaser for the game, which you can watch here:

"Black Ops 6" could be set at the time of the Gulf War

The black-and-white trailer features several heads of state from the 1990s, including Bill Clinton, George Bush, Margaret Thatcher and Saddam Hussein. Other information about the game, including an earlier teaser, also indicates that "Black Ops 6" is set in the early nineties and will focus on the circumstances surrounding the second Gulf War. There is no official release date yet, but it is expected that "Black Ops 6" will be released in October.

Microsoft plans to announce more information about the game on 9 June from 7pm (CET) at the "Xbox Games Showcase", followed by the "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct". The livestream will be available to watch on Xbox's YouTube channel, among others.

"Call of Duty" in the Game Pass: This was foreseeable

The fact that "Black Ops 6" and the entire "Call of Duty" franchise will appear in the Game Pass comes as no surprise - and yet it does. In his article on the current difficulties in Microsoft's gaming division, my colleague Phil discusses the case:

Xbox is facing its biggest upheaval ever

    by Philipp Rüegg

Xbox has announced that all games from its own studios will be included in Game Pass. This includes Activision games, including the "Call of Duty" series. Microsoft is taking this step to keep the Game Pass subscription attractive and relevant. Conversely, however, this also means significantly less revenue from the sale of the games. "Call of Duty" was previously the Xbox's goldmine. Without the sales, a large part of the profits from Microsoft's gaming division will be lost.

If you are interested in the Xbox Gamepass, you can buy game time for one, three or twelve months in our shop.
