Copilot+: Microsoft postpones the launch of Recall
Recall is missing for the launch of notebooks with Copilot+. Microsoft has postponed the launch of the new AI search function.
Copilot+ will be launched on 18 June 2024. The new notebooks with Snapdragon chips from Qualcomm will then be available. However, one of the functions exclusively available on these devices has been delayed. Microsoft has postponed the launch of Recall.
Recall continues to be tested in the Windows Insider Programme
In a blog post, Microsoft announced that Recall will not be available at the launch of Copilot+. Instead, the function will be available to registered testers via the Windows Insider Programme in the coming weeks.
This means that one of the four major AI functions of Copilot+ will be available later than planned. The English live subtitles for 44 languages, AI image generation in Paint and optimisations for video calls should be available as planned. Nevertheless, a major - and controversial - driving force for the new notebooks is missing.
The search function knows what you did last summer
Recall is an advanced search function that searches through your emails and documents and knows what you did on your computer. To do this, it regularly creates screenshots and uses AI to recognise what can be seen or read there
The function can be practical, but recently there were concerns because the data was stored unencrypted on the computers and could be accessed from outside. As a result, Microsoft has already changed the function from opt-out to opt-in. In other words, you now have to consciously activate Recall.
As a primary school pupil, I used to sit in a friend's living room with many of my classmates to play the Super NES. Now I get my hands on the latest technology and test it for you. In recent years at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, now at Digitec and Galaxus.
