Disney confirms: "Shōgun" gets two (!) new seasons

That was really quick: Just three days ago, colleague Kim reported that "Shōgun"-lead actor and producer Hiroyuki Sanada is said to have signed on for a possible second season - but that a possible sequel is still up in the air.

Too many pieces of the puzzle still need to come together before we can talk about concrete plans, wrote the online media portal Deadline. Especially because James Clavell, the author of the novel on which the series is based, has only written one book. The makers will therefore have to come up with their own story for further seasons.

Well, the plans are probably not that vague after all. Disney announced the following in a press release:

In fact, the press release reveals that not just one, but two new seasons are planned. The two showrunners Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo are returning, as are executive producer Michaela Clavell and - of course - Hiroyuki Sanada.

When the series, which is streamed on Disney+ in this country, will go into the next round is not yet known. However, you can expect the usual two to three years between announcement and release. Unless, of course, Brands, Kondo, Clavell and Sanada already had ideas beforehand and had already worked them out - just in case. <p
