LEGO McLaren P1
42172, LEGO Technic
After two years, Lego Technic is getting a new 1:8 scale supercar - the McLaren P1. It is the first British car in this series.
Lego presents the latest model in its Technic range: the McLaren P1. The set, which will be released by Lego on 1 August and will be available at Galaxus from September, comprises 3893 pieces and is aimed at adult Lego fans and collectors.
The McLaren P1 is already the fifth model in the series of large 1:8 scale supercars, which began in 2016 with the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. This was followed by the Bugatti Chiron, the Lamborghini Sián and the Ferrari Daytona SP3.
The packaging of the McLaren P1 favours a minimalist design. The front simply shows the silhouette of the real car against a matt black background, while the back reveals the finished Lego model and the number of parts.
Numerous functions are modelled on the original: a 7-speed gearbox with shift drum, wheel suspensions, a V8 piston engine, an adjustable rear wing and flip-up butterfly doors.
The set contains some exclusive parts that have been specially developed for the McLaren P1. In addition to the new rims, this also includes various Technic panels in the special Bright Light Orange colour.
An additional feature is the unique serial number that comes with each set. This provides access to exclusive online content that offers further insights into the development and technical features of the McLaren P1.
The Lego Technic McLaren P1 impresses with a multitude of details. In my opinion, the replica of the real vehicle and its moulds is a success. The set is one of the best models in this year's Technic range. However, the high price could be a hurdle for many. It also remains to be seen how the set compares to the other supercar models in the Technic range.
What do you think of the new Lego Technic supercar? Can it keep up with the previous models? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
