Imagine your board game session transformed into an epic adventure where every detail of your fantasy world is brought to life through sound. Pocket Bard provides exactly that.

The dice roll on the table while a storm rages outside. You and your friends sit mesmerised around the game board, in the middle of an epic quest. Suddenly, you hear the crackling of a campfire and the distant howl of a wolf – you’re no longer in your living room, but deep in a mystical forest. The thing that makes all this possible? Pocket Bard – a great audio app for board games with matching sound effects and music.

The right ambience for every scene

The app adapts to almost every game situation. Whether your journey takes you through a quiet village, along dark, mysterious streets, through dense forests, up high mountains or even into the vastness of outer space – you’ll find the right ambience for each of these environments. Pocket Bard is available on iOS and Android.

The free version offers a rich selection of ambiences that cover almost all game scenarios. If you still want more variety, you can opt for a subscription. CHF 6.30 per month or CHF 65 per year to get access to even more ambiences. But even in the basic version, the app is surprisingly comprehensive and for me there’s plenty.

Sound effects at the click of a button

In addition to the different scenes, the app gets a bonus point for its range of sound effects. Ambient sounds such as the babbling of a river, a gentle whisper or the crackling of a campfire bring your game world to life. Weather effects such as rain, wind or the rumble of thunder add a further dimension. Then there are the one-shots – striking sounds such as the howling of a wolf, the force of an explosion or the solemn ringing of church bells – which can be used specifically to dramatically emphasise key moments in the game. This combination of atmospheric backgrounds and targeted sound effects creates a captivating audio backdrop which blurs the boundaries between game and reality.

Depending on what’s happening, you can play different sound effects at the touch of a button.

With Pocket Bard, your game night becomes an experience that goes far beyond the traditional board game. The app allows you to immerse yourself in the world of the game as if you were right there. Whether you only play the occasional game or regularly venture into dungeons with your friends, this app takes your board game play to a new level.
