Sony is now testing PC support for the PS VR2 after all

The line-up of VR games available for Sony's VR headset PS VR2 is rather modest - especially compared to the competition from Meta. This could now change. In an announcement of several new VR games, Sony dropped a little bombshell almost in passing: They are currently testing ways to "access additional games on PC" with the PS VR2.

This was only a small bombshell because Gillen McAllister, Senior Specialist for Content Communications, did not mention any details. Is he talking about full PC support? He left open what kind of interface could enable PC support and whether there would be access to Steam VR and even Meta's Oculus library. However, he held out the prospect that this support could become available later this year.

If the PS VR2 were to gain access to all VR libraries on the computer, it could become much more attractive for many users.

PS VR2 and PC: not friends yet

Currently, it is not possible to use the PS VR2 on a computer. At best, the headset is recognised as a second screen. The controllers are recognised, but do not work. Thanks to workarounds to the hardware and software, the user "iVRy" was able to make the PS VR2 usable on a PC, but an adapter would be required to use it properly. However, this is not yet available. Until now, it was considered unlikely that Sony would be able to offer support for the PS VR2 on the PC.

iVRy has now responded to Sony's announcement on X, formerly Twitter, and is cautious: The announcement would be a little too thin for an accurate assessment. He assumes that Sony could be working on an interface like Quest Link (Meta) or Valve Link. This would allow VR applications to be run on the computer and streamed to the headset. A Playstation 5 would then still be required to operate the PS VR2.

Announcements and updates on new VR games for PS VR2

In addition to the news about the PS VR2, McAllister also had some announcements and updates on new VR games for the Playstation 5. These games will be available for PS VR2 later this year:

• "The Wizards - Dark Times: Brotherhood": You play a wizard travelling through the realm of Meliora. Using hand gestures, you conjure up various spells and use them to fight your opponents. The game is available now.
• Corgi DLC for "Arizona Sunshine 2": In the popular zombie shooter, you now have a loyal companion at your side in the form of a small dog. In addition, up to four players can fight together on new maps. The DLC is also available now.
• "Little Cities: Bigger": This relaxing game is designed to allow you to create your own island. You can then observe your work. The trailer shows, for example, how a giant snowball rolls from the mountain into the centre of the city. It will be available from 12 March.
• "Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate": This is a remake of the popular game Wanderer. You use a clock to travel through time. You solve puzzles, collect weapons and explore the world. The game is available from 27 June.
• "Zombie Army VR": In the first-person perspective, you shoot and blast your way through a zombie-infested post-apocalyptic world with a friend. Your goal is to free Europe from the zombies. The release is later this year.
• "Soul Covenant": In the near future, you fight against robot armies in Japan. You can join forces with up to four other players. You can turn fallen comrades into weapon upgrades so that their deaths are not in vain. The game will also be released later this year.
