173,000 products, from bicycles through treadmills to (e-)scooters. Galaxus has jumped head first into sports. The online retailer has tripled the size of its sports range in the last six months and gained strong partners to do so. Brands like Puma, Odlo or Giro are on board, with Thule, Petzl, Concept2 and others completing the range. Galaxus is increasingly becoming an all-rounder among EU stores and already offers a total of 2.4 million items in nine categories.

Summer is coming, and people are looking to melt away their carefully curated winter weight gain. So up on your feet, let’s go for a jog, a trip into the mountains or onto a bike and scooter. From tents through sneakers to water and ball sports, any athlete’s desires will be met at Galaxus. «The range is now around 170,000 products strong, and our customers are getting more and more choice,» says Martin Maissen, Head of Sports at Galaxus. «Our focus is on bicycles, outdoor equipment and fitness equipment, they’re our speciality. But don’t miss out on our sports shoes and athletic wear.»

From tech professionals to all-rounders

Bonke Bruhn, Category Manager at Galaxus in Hamburg, used to be responsible for hard drives, now he’s in charge of sports: «My job has changed a lot. The business is very seasonal; we feel every ray of sunshine and every snowflake in sales. In the process, we move from skis to bike in just a few weeks. After that, it’s on to water sports, camping and rock-climbing.»

Galaxus is also increasingly becoming a universal retailer in the EU. The parent company Digitec Galaxus launched in Switzerland in 2001 in the tech sector, followed in 2012 by Galaxus.ch with a broad department store range. In 2018, the online retailer Galaxus.de expanded into the EU, at that time also with a focus on smartphones, hard drives and similar products. Now, Galaxus categories also include Toys, Home + Kitchen, DIY + Garden, Love + Play as well as Health + Beauty. In 2022, the Interior category was added with 200,000 items including furniture, lamps and decorative accessories.

New marketplace traders strengthen the range

A large factor in the increase in sports-related products stems from the new Galaxus marketplace in Germany, which went live in January. 71 retailers are already connected to Galaxus, growing the sports range even further.
