Barbie turns 65

Nine outstanding top sportswomen will be immortalised as Barbie. This was announced by toy manufacturer Mattel in a press release.
The toy giant Mattel is turning nine successful sportswomen into Barbie dolls. The company announced this in a press release on its website

As Mattel states, the aim of the campaign is to showcase strong women. At the same time, Barbie's 65th birthday is being celebrated with this special series.
Krista Berger from Mattel says about the project: "With the inspiring athletes and their stories, we want to show that every young girl deserves the chance to pursue her passions."
Barbie Role model Venus Williams said of the campaign, "Throughout my career, I've always been driven by the idea of breaking glass ceilings and staying true to myself. Barbie's mission couldn't fit better with that mindset."
Sports Barbies already exist, including US figure skating champion and Olympic gold medallist Kristi Yamaguchi and a non-personalised footballer.
