What’s in my bag: Domagoj’s got the power

My rucksack contains plenty of power, a games console and two pieces of work equipment. Believe it or not, one of them is completely analogue.

In this series, Digitec Galaxus editors reveal what they pack in their bags when they leave the house. I fill my spacious Pinqponq rucksack with the gadgets I need for commuting from Bern to Zurich. Most of them also come with me when I’m going somewhere besides the office.

The OG gadget: my beloved Nintendo Switch

I’ve had my Switch longer than any other gadget. I have the OLED model in my bag right now, though I sometimes pack the smaller Switch Lite in the Hyrule Edition.

Nintendo’s hybrid console’s safely tucked away in a Tough Pouch from Hori. I’ve brought this sturdy case on every trip I’ve taken since the Switch launched in 2017. My version’s no longer available to buy, but the newer slim variety looks similar.

As much as I love my Switch, I can’t wait to replace it with the Switch 2. Hopefully it won’t be long now. Reportedly, a successor to the console will be announced by the end of the current financial year.

I take notes the old-fashioned way

I don’t just play games for fun – I do it for work too. That work involves writing game reviews and chatting with Phil and the gang on our Swiss-German podcast about the latest games. To avoid losing track of things, I jot down my impressions and ideas in a paper notebook from Leuchtturm as I’m gaming. I write my notes with a Caran’dAche 849 Classic Line pen. You’ve got to treat yourself sometimes, right?

Admittedly, my notes look like the scribblings of a crazed serial killer. But I like to put my thoughts about a game down on paper before processing them digitally. In the photo below, you can see the notes I took for my review of Sony’s PS5 masterpiece Astro Bot.

My laptop’s where the magic happens

When I’m out and about, I unleash my creativity on my brand new Microsoft Surface laptop. It’s a dream to work on. The display’s ultra-bright, the touchpad’s first-class for a Windows laptop and the battery’s excellent thanks to the energy-saving ARM chipset. There’s no comparing it to my previous gaming laptop, which barely survived five minutes without being plugged in. My mouse of choice is the MX Master Mac Edition.

Escaping the noise

When travelling alone, I’m keen to hear my typically annoying fellow passengers as little as possible. With this in mind, headphones with active noise cancelling are an absolute must. I’ve been using Sony’s flagship series for years. At the moment, I’ve got the WH-1000XM4 and the WF-1000XM5 in my bag. Not only do they perfectly cancel out annoying noises, but they also have damn good batteries. I’m over the moon with them.

My stylish power bank keeps me going for longer

My portable devices all have excellent battery life. Even so, I usually have a power bank on me just in case. My favourite model is the Shargeek 100. I could charge my Switch six times with its 25,600 mAh battery. The power bank’s high capacity means even my laptop doesn’t lose any power. Plus, the gadget just looks seriously cool. Shoutout to my fellow editor Lorenz Keller, whose review inspired me to buy it.

Working magic with my wallet

Sometimes, I don’t have room for my wallet in my trouser pockets. When that’s the case, I put it in my rucksack. Right now, I have a Magic Coin Wallet from Hunterson.

Where’s the «magic» in that, you ask? Well, regardless of what side you open the wallet, elastic bands ensure your banknotes will always flip to the top. It’s a nifty party trick. But that’s not the only thing I like about my magic wallet. It has more than enough space for all my cards, banknotes and even coins.
