Your Android phone can now detect AirTags

Apple's AirTags are also used for stalking. With your Android phone, you can now recognise whether someone has planted an unwanted AirTag on you.
Google has released a new security update for all Android versions since Android 6.0. In addition to a few bug fixes and patches, you also get a new feature for personal security. It has been known for some time that trackers, such as Apple's AirTags, are not only used for wallets and key rings, but also for stalking. They are placed in pockets or attached to cars in order to monitor a person.
In collaboration with Apple, Google has now developed a function that automatically recognises unknown Bluetooth trackers. The function is currently limited to Apple's AirTags. However, Google has already announced that it wants to work with other manufacturers so that their trackers can also be detected in future.
How to find unwanted AirTags
I'll show you how to activate and use the function on Android using the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra as an example. Your smartphone's menu may have a slightly different structure. The menu items may also have different names. However, the structure is similar.

First, make sure that you have downloaded and installed all available Android updates. Open the "Settings" app and scroll down to the menu item "Security and emergencies". Open the menu, then select the item "Notifications about unknown Bluetooth trackers".
Here you specify whether you want to be notified automatically. To do this, activate the slider next to "Allow notifications". Bear in mind that you will then also be notified if, for example, you are sitting opposite someone on the train who is carrying an AirTag and then leaves it behind. Otherwise, you can start the manual search by tapping on "Search now". This only takes a few seconds.

I've been tinkering with digital networks ever since I found out how to activate both telephone channels on the ISDN card for greater bandwidth. As for the analogue variety, I've been doing that since I learned to talk. Though Winterthur is my adoptive home city, my heart still bleeds red and blue.
