The GoPro Hero8 Black lands in the midfield of action cams in the CHIP test with a good overall score. The model from 2019 only costs around 300 euros, but still has a lot to offer: The sharp 4K videos and good features were convincing in the test, and the typical retractable finger mount is already included here. Only the somewhat weak battery drags down the overall score.

Numerous improvements in detail make the Hero8 the best technical Gopro model to date. However, those who already own the Hero7 do not have to switch: The added value is not high enough. And newcomers to Gopro should consider whether it really has to be the 8 model. The predecessor scored with a much better price-performance ratio: the Hero7 is currently available for 110 euros less.
In the test, the GoPro Hero8 Black surpasses the already reference-setting predecessor model in almost every area.
