"Rocket Lake-S" is the name of the 11th generation of Intel Core processors. Compared to the 10th generation "Comet Lake-S," "Rocket Lake-S" offers higher clock speeds, supports higher memory clock rates, and provides support for PCI-Express 4.0 along with an increased total of 20 PCIe lanes. Thanks to the optimized 14nm manufacturing process, the Core i9-11900KF has a base clock of 3.5 GHz. With Intel Thermal Velocity Boost, the processor achieves a single-core max boost of 5.3 GHz, while all 8 cores (and 16 threads) can also be automatically overclocked to up to 5.3 GHz. Depending on the type of application and cooling, the Core i9-11900KF consistently delivers optimal performance thanks to its automatic boost clock. Additionally, the Core i9-11900KF features an unlocked multiplier, allowing for manual overclocking when paired with a compatible motherboard. With the Intel Socket LGA 1200, the 11th generation of Intel Core processors has a socket for mounting on the motherboard. This means the processor is only compatible with Intel motherboards featuring the LGA 1200 socket and a chipset from Intel's 500 series. The number of pins remains the same at 1200, but motherboards with Intel Z590 support PCIe 4.0 for a graphics card and an SSD. The dimensions of the socket and the ILM (Independent Loading Mechanism) remain identical to the 1151/1155 socket, allowing existing CPU coolers to be used without the need for a retrofit kit.
