Top noise cancelling! Now my two neighbors can mow the lawn as much as they want and the Patrouille Suisse can fly over my house as often as they want.

I am a long-time buyer of the Sony WH series. Back then, I bought the Sony WH-1000XM2 and immediately became a fan of the series. Based on my good experience, I replaced these headphones with the Sony WH-1000XM4. I was also very satisfied with these. Unfortunately, after three years they simply broke off when worn over the ear cup. I thought at the time that the workmanship was not particularly stable at this point. However, since I was satisfied with the series until then, I simply got the latest headphones: the Sony WH-1000XM5. These headphones did not disappoint either. Unfortunately, they also broke after about 8 months in exactly the same place as the previous model. Unfortunately, the quality at this point is even worse than that of the predecessor. I would like to write positive things about these headphones, but I am convinced that this is a weak point intended by Sony.
When I sent the headphones in for warranty processing, Sony would not replace them because such damage is not covered by the warranty. I write this review with a heavy heart, as I was convinced by this series and would certainly have bought the next pair of headphones. Unfortunately, however, I will now no longer buy Sony headphones and also feel obliged to advise others against doing so. If you want to buy Sony headphones, I strongly recommend that you choose one of the older models. The improvements in the newer models are minimal in terms of sound quality anyway.

Manufacturer's warranty rejected with repair offer closer than purchase price.

These headphones have a defect in the headband. There are various reports of this under the term: "XM5 Hinge". If this defect occurs, Digitec argues that, according to Sony, it is not a warranty case and you have to buy new headphones. Digitec does not even check the defect itself.
As countless reports show, this defect is probably based on a design fault. Digitec therefore blames Sony, but still collects CHF 259 for it and leaves the customer in the lurch.
I have now approached the consumer protection organisation, because Digitec is trying to play a nasty game here to avoid taking over the guarantee.

The headphones have a "predetermined breaking point" at the pivot point of the headband. The plastic sleeve is too thin to withstand the pressure of the headband in the long term. The bracket cannot be replaced/repaired and the headphones become unusable. Sony does not provide a guarantee for this. Do not buy.

After more than 300 hours of use in the last 2 months, I really have to say that the headphones are almost perfect. The ANC is better than with any other headphones. Previously, I used the AirPods Max. At first when you put the headphones on, the ANC is "moderate", but after a few seconds when the system has analysed the ambient noise, air pressure etc., there is a drastic improvement and you have the best noise cancelling ever (everything automatically when you put them on). Carrying case is a bit big, much bigger than the predecessor, but far better than the AirPods Max. Sound quality is really great on Android and Windows, even better than the AirPods Max. On iOS or Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac etc.), the AirPods Max sounded slightly better than when using the Sonys. With Android and Windows, it was the other way round again. The battery life was also around 30 hours. However, I found the quick charging the best. After a few minutes, the battery lasts for a day. Overall, I think they are the best headphones, but if you have an Apple ecosystem, you can live with the slightly worse ANC. But if you want the best of the best and don't want to rely only on the Apple ecosystem, these are the best.
