A lens with a large aperture for photos and videos. Equipped with an advanced optical design that includes two XA (extreme aspherical) elements and one aspherical element, it delivers incredibly high resolution right to the edges of the image and beautiful background defocus (bokeh). Two XD linear motors (Extreme Dynamic) provide fast, precise, and quiet autofocus and tracking in this compact and lightweight Sony G Master lens. The internal focusing ensures a stable angle of view during focusing (focus breathing is minimized). The FE 35mm F1.4 GM is an excellent lens for video recording, offering smooth, fast, and continuous autofocus performance for filming.

The Sony FE 35 mm f/1.4 GM delivers impressive images with high sharpness in the test - and thanks to the large open aperture of f/1.4 also in low light. Only the visible drop in resolution towards the edge somewhat spoils the otherwise flawless overall picture. The workmanship and features are outstanding, as is typical of the G-Master...

At open aperture the resolution is high, the contrast very high. Shutting down the aperture lowers the resolution in the centre of the image a little, but at the same time the edge drop decreases. At aperture 5.6, it almost disappears, as does the edge fall-off of the contrast. Thanks to the top contrast and the moderate to low edge fall-off, this 35 for 1700 euros can be used open or stopped down...
