Can the amplifier be switched on and off via a power strip, or is the mains switch a pulse switch?

Helpful answer

Yes, that works. I have just tried it out. Switched the amplifier on, switched it off using the mains switch, switched it on again using the mains switch.
It works.

It's an impulse button. And you can also use the remote control.
Whatever the case, I don't think it's reasonable to switch an amplifier (-tuner) on and off via the on/off button on a power strip. This could damage the amp's circuitry.

Hello magis

This amplifier only has a standby switch at the front (i.e. a pulse switch)
So it only switches off completely when the mains plug is pulled out.

It is possible that the amplifier can be switched on via the mains adapter,
but whether it is then switched on or goes directly into standby mode is impossible to say.

However, as this amplifier has no mains switch at the back and no fuse that would be accessible from the outside,
I would not switch this Yamaha A-S201 on and off using the power strip.

Is it about power consumption or switching on directly, e.g. with a timer for an alarm function?

Usually such devices go to a certain source (tuner) or to the last selected source when the power is disconnected and switched on again.

You have to try it out.

However, I can tell you that this amplifier should be connected to a power strip that offers overvoltage protection.
Because our power grid fluctuates in voltage.

In the long term, this causes our devices to become defective or the power supply unit to suffer more wear and tear.

If you want your devices to last a little longer,
I strongly recommend a mains filter or a mains filter strip, e.g. from the Isotek brand.

If you are going away on holiday for a few weeks, it is advisable to switch off certain appliances.

Unfortunately, however, certain manufacturers build appliances that may lose all their settings after a long power cut,
may lose all settings or not switch on at all.

This is usually caused by a very cheap quality power supply unit.

Even if appliances have been without power for a longer period and it is still cold in the room because the heating has been switched off,
the appliances should only be switched on after approx. 1-2 hours and the room temperature should be increased first.

I would just like to say that I liked the old Yamaha amplifiers better.
Too much plastic is used today, which is a shame.
