Product details
Now Kitty speaks: The new graphic novel from the world of Anne Frank after the groundbreaking success of the "Graphic Diary". Her diary made Anne Frank and her story world-famous. In her family's hiding place, it is her comforting friend. Anne writes to Kitty - the only one she can confide her worries, secrets and fears to. In this new, poignantly illustrated graphic novel, Kitty comes to life in the present day. The new heroine shows us Anne's memories and thoughts from the touching perspective of a best friend, making Anne's story accessible to a new generation. As Kitty tries to find out what happened to Anne after the diary ends, a breathtaking search for clues through the most devastating chapter in recent history begins. Anne Frank, born on 12 June 1929 in Frankfurt am Main, emigrates to Amsterdam with her parents in 1933. After the German Wehrmacht invades and occupies the Netherlands in 1940, Anne Frank's family hides with four others in a back house of Otto Frank's company. During this time, thirteen-year-old Anne confides her feelings and thoughts to her diary, describing her everyday life in hiding and the crushing fear of discovery. The diary ends on 1 August 1944: the Jewish residents of the back house are denounced and arrested three days later, the Frank family is deported to Auschwitz and separated there. Anne Frank and her sister Margot die seven months later in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Her mother Edith dies in Auschwitz on 6 January 1945. Otto Frank, Anne and Margot's father, is the only survivor from the back house. After the war, he receives his daughter's diaries and publishes excerpts from them for the first time in 1947. To date, the full version of Anne Frank's diary has been published in over 80 languages.
