Product details

Before opening the hood, make sure there is enough space on the right side of the vehicle. Slowly lift the hood and tilt it to the right until the leather strap is taut. Now, take your seat as follows: swing the seat up, slightly turn the steering wheel to the right, place your right foot in the center of the vehicle, sit down, insert your left foot, and position both feet forward. Only now should you support yourself with both hands on the angled side frame ears and allow the seat to swing forward. For proper entry, a user manual would be unthinkable today, although considering that in America one needs instructions for opening a champagne bottle, it’s not entirely surprising. The German engineer and designer Fritz Fend initially developed a scooter car called the Fend Flitzer, which was manufactured in Rosenheim. From 1953, series production began in collaboration with aircraft designer Willy Messerschmitt at his Regensburg plant, allowing the further developed Messerschmitt cabin scooter 175, or KR 175, to be presented in March 1953. This completely novel concept caused a sensation in the microcar class: three small wheels, a motorcycle handlebar, two seats arranged one behind the other, and a Plexiglas canopy. There was initially no reverse gear. It was only with the successor model KR 200 introduced in 1955 that reverse driving became possible by simply reversing the motor's rotation direction. With a total weight of 210 kg and an engine output of 10.2 HP, a top speed of 90 km/h is achieved. Alongside the BMW Isetta and the Goggomobil, the Messerschmitt KR 200 is among the most successful microcars of the 1950s. In its best business year, 1955, 1,909 KR 200 units were produced and sold.
