Only track sleepers (no rails) to be pushed onto the flex track to get a good connection from the flex track to other tracks. Early on, an alternative to wooden sleepers was sought, which was inexpensive and as weather-resistant as possible. Very good experience was gained with concrete sleepers and so concrete sleepers were quickly found on many types of tracks, partly in combination with wooden and steel sleepers. Concrete sleepers are the standard for modern railways.
