Should it be a paella made from Spanish paella rice ("Bomba") that transforms meat and fish into a wonder of flavours, a chirashi bowl made from Japanese sushi rice ("Koshihikari") that combines fish, nori & co. or wonderfully sweet rice pudding ("Arborio")? People consume ~ 520 million tonnes of rice per year. The fact that rice is so popular will surely come as no surprise to anyone: after all, the consumption of rice has always been interwoven with human history - while its roots can be traced back to China, it is now also available everywhere in America and Europe. Cooking rice is a quick and simple matter in itself: all you have to do is leave it in boiling water until it is full of water but still al dente. It is quite possible to spoil the rice in the process: after all, the volume of water must be just right. The type of rice (white rice, brown rice, etc.) can play a significant role here. It is also more difficult to keep the rice warm for a while after cooking without the rice grains burning. Fortunately, modern technology can do most of this work for you: We are talking about modern rice cookers that do all this and much more by themselves.
