The PC adapter for PS VR2 is coming in August: access to thousands of SteamVR titles
The PS VR2 should soon become much more attractive: From August, you will also be able to use the headset on a PC with an adapter.
You will soon be able to officially access all VR games in the SteamVR library with your Playstation VR2 headset. Sony has announced the release of an adapter on the Playstation blog that will enable the PS VR2 to be used on a PC and therefore also for Steam. The price and the minimum requirements for your computer are now also known: According to Sony, the adapter will be released on 7 August and is expected to cost around 60 euros or francs.
Until a few months ago, it didn't look like Sony would allow the PS VR2 to be used on other platforms. The surprise was correspondingly great when Sony mentioned in passing in February that it was looking into the possibility of using the headset with the PC:
Requirements for the use of PS VR2 on PC
You need a PC with Windows 10 or 11, eight gigabytes of RAM and a processor from Intel Core i5-7600 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 with Zen 2. For the graphics card, Sony recommends at least an Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 or an AMD Radeon 6600XT. You will also need DisplayPort 1.4 and a suitable cable, USB for direct connections and Bluetooth 4.0. Unfortunately, not all Bluetooth adapters will be compatible; Sony promises more information on this before the adapter is launched.
If all requirements are met, you will be able to use the PS VR2 on your PC from August. However, not all features will be supported: you will have to do without HDR, eye tracking, headset feedback and haptic controller feedback, except for vibration. However, 4K resolution, 110-degree field of view, passthrough, finger-touch recognition and 3D audio are possible.
These games are popular on SteamVR
The rather small selection of games for PS VR2 compared to the competition from Meta and Steam has been a problem for Sony so far. An overview on Wikipedia currently lists 278 games for the PS VR2. In contrast, according to an advert on SteamDB, around 600 new VR games are added to Steam every year. That's more than 6000 games and VR experiences at the moment.
The multiplayer horror game "Phasmophobia", which was very popular on the PC, was supposed to be available for PS VR2 as early as 2023. However, the release was repeatedly postponed. You can now play "Phasmophobia" directly via Steam in August at the latest.
Currently popular VR hits on Steam that PS VR2 users have not yet been able to play include "War Thunder" for tank fans, the "Microsoft Flight Simulator", "Subnautica" with its wonderful underwater world and the space simulator "Elite: Dangerous", which is said to be very impressive in VR.
With "Half-Life: Alyx", you can also play an action horror game on Steam that is considered one of the best VR games ever by the Community. I've played it myself and think it's an absolute must for VR fans. The VR conversions of popular Bethesda games such as "Fallout 4 VR" and "The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim VR" have also not yet been available for the PS VR2.
It is not yet clear whether you will be able to buy the adapter in our shop. When the time comes, we will let you know.
Addendum: The adapter is now available from us.
And if you are still looking for the PS VR2 headset: Here you will find it.
