With a large maximum aperture of 1:1.2, the lens offers an outstanding speed for use in low light conditions. In addition, the large aperture also allows precise control over the depth of field.
Excellent reproduction in the blur range (Bokeh effect)
A circular iris diaphragm is used in the lens to provide an attractive, even blur area in the background; ideal for isolating objects at large apertures and for convincing portrait photography.
Fast, virtually silent autofocus
The autofocus is operated by the ring-shaped ultrasonic motor (Ultrasonic Motor - USM) built directly into the lens. This enables extremely fast and almost noiseless focusing. A high-performance CPU unit and an improved AF algorithm contribute to the high speed of the autofocus. A good holding torque guides the optical design precisely to the focal point without overdriving. Electronically controlled focusing can be taken over at any time by manual intervention without leaving the AF mode.
