Does the bios still need to be updated for an AMD 5 5600, for example?

Depending on which bios is installed. If it says "AMD Ryzen 5000 Desktop Ready", it already has a bios that supports the 5th generation. But the pictures still show 3000.

However, remember that you only have pcie 3.0 via the CPU and pcie 2.0 via the chipset. I would recommend a board with a B550 chip.
